Maintenance Day

Today I guess I will try to clean this site up a little and get things a bit more current. I've updated a little info on the side bar there to the left. I have a lot more to do though! It's been 2 years!

I've really lost time with the 1001 Days thing too. So maybe I will just reset that counter and do it over. The whole "40 years old" and "15 year anniversary" thing can't be repeated but I can adjust things to suit our current situation better.

All the books need updating. Plus I've bought all those things on my wish list - and then some! In fact, I should review things while I am at it. Like my new carpet steam cleaner! (I LOVE IT!)

Ok. Let me pull my thoughts together and then I can really start diving in *glee*

April 23, 2010

And I'm back...

After years of having really borked my site... I got Free Advice Friday (Sean) to fix it for me. Yay! *\o/*

March 23, 2007

Whoa! It worked!

Moons ago (I don't remember when) I posted about high school friends. It worked! One was searching their name, found my site and sent me an email! *shock* How cool is that?? *waves at Mark*

Stuff

I decided to turn comments back on. Just on a whim. We'll see what happens.

In other news: Fern is growing like a weed. She's getting really cute and full of personality. She's also a little schemer. We'll have to watch her closely. Today I watched her figure out how to get to a doll I had put up away from her. :\

We've had a lousy winter, weatherwise. We did get one storm last week. All the weather people had said minimum 12 inches. We got two. I feel gyp'd.

This year is my 20 year class reunion. *gulp*. I'm still not sure if I'm going. Probably not. Last time I only knew one person. And she didn't like me at all during high school lol.

I've been kicking around the idea of starting a podcast. I have two different directions I could go. I'm not sure which one I'd enjoy more. And I'm not sure which one would keep my interest longer. . . . I'll have to keep thinking on this. Whatever, I would like to either put it aside or have the first podcast ready to go the second Thursday of next month.

I'm learning knitting! *gasp* Finally after all these years, I'm learning how to knit. I was crocheting a bedspread - actually for the past 18 months or so. And I'm going in rounds, dc, dc, dc, dc, popcorn, dc dc dc dc, c, c, c, c, ad naseum. Totally bored and unchallenged. It struck me then that I have been crocheting for nearly 30 years. Yikes. And I'm bored! There are only so many double crochet and chain combos you can do. It was then I decided that this year I'm finally going to teach myself how to knit. So right now, I'm making a hat. lol. It's pretty funky. It's made of 26 triangles. I have about .... *counts* .... 11 so far. They go pretty quick.

I'm going to add a side bar sometime today of my WIPs (works in progress), UFOs (unfinished objects) and whatever else all those abbreviations mean.

And with that, I'm off to find some code.

Comments

Well, I have decided to turn off comments. I rarely, if ever, got a valid comment. And have gotten tons of spam instead.

So there you have it. No comments allowed. Sorry.

May 16, 2006

Well.

I guess that's it! Everything should be hunky dorey. (how is that spelled anyway??) I suppose over the next few days I will find out if anything is missing or undone.

In the meantime. A picture!

Oranges make me cry.

We are live!

Soon I will put the forums link back in. Sorry if you miss it for a bit!

May 13, 2006

The forums again

I talked with Sean and it looks like I'll be able to salvage the forums after all! YAY! I will get that started tomorrow sometime. Cross your fingers X X

May 12, 2006

Couple last things

Well. Bummer. I finally admitted to myself the forum will be going. I'll be replacing it with another one. But - all the things are this one are going away. Rats. Maybe I can salvage it as an archive . . . We'll see. Sean will help me decide on that.

Otherwise, once the new forum is completed, then I will be back! Yay! Maybe come Monday . . . ? Again, we'll see!

Almost there

Just an update. I am currently recreating my website. It's taking a lot longer than I anticipated but I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. So bear with me. I will be back and making entries to this soon. Yay!

May 06, 2006

wheee!!!

So this is fun. :boing: I have alllllllll kinds of stuff to keep me busy on my web site! YAY!!!! I just love to tinker with this kind of thing :boing:

April 25, 2006

What to do . . .

I'm still trying to decide what I am going to do about my web site problem. Here's what happened - I think. I am running software called "Movable Type". There's a back end interface that I put my text and images and that automatically updates my web site online. Well, something got corrupted and slowly there's been a melt down going on. Finally it caught up to me yesterday and my login is now gone too. *sigh*

I am kicking around several ideas to correct this. One - Reupload the entire site. Two - upload entirely new software then bring it "live" when it's ready. I'm leaning toward idea One right now.

Anyway, what I was going to say yesterday: IT'S SPRING!! We went to the desert last week. Not too far from home. We went to close where the Bowen Ranch entrance is. Anyway, we saw a small seasonal stream and lots of wildflowers. Spring has sprung!!

April 24, 2006

Ack!

Ack! I totally borked my web site! I don't have time to correct it right now so just know that YES I am aware of it. NO there won't be any updates for a while. And YES I am totally BUMMED about it  Ok. Breath. In and Out.

February 22, 2006

Broke it, I think

I was going to do some maintenance on the website (such as add more side links and change some data) but apparently it's not working! Ugh. I'm going to be moving my site to a new machine in the next few weeks though. Adding a bunch of stuff. Putting in a "boutique" (I like that name!) And so on. So look for some changes this spring!

Wow

Wow! What a wild month January turned out to be! Let's see...

Went camping in the Ord Mountains. I just love it there. And the dogs get a real kick out of being in the middle of nowhere full of rabbits and birds. Ok. Bird Dog Leo loves it. Solo just wants to make sure we all stay together and no one gets toooo far from the rest of the "pack" on the walks.

Later in the month : Motherboard and RAM fried. Hee hee. When I say "I don't know how to do this, maybe *you* should" well... listen. :D So yeah. My fault. But it didn't happen without a warning cry of "HOW DO I DO THIS??!!" eheheh.

Turned off Satellite TV again. This time it's not as painful ha. How come I have so much time to do things in the evenings now? Same number of hours. But more is getting done. hmmm....

Speaking of more time: I've been asked to write articles for our local magazine! I'm THRILLED!! So I have to get myself in gear. I'll be writing up stories on our local hikes. It should be a lot of fun. With this and the Forest Service Photography volunteer work - well. Someday I might "know" our forest. In the meantime, we're still poking and learning and discovering TONS of new things.

I think that brings me up to date. The last thing I need to mention: TOTE BAGS! Yes, they are finally here! I've been sewing away like a little magic Brownie in the sewing loft and getting some things done. Now they are ready for viewing. I'm so proud of them. My good friend, Coral (of Newfstitch.com) does the embroidery shown on the bags. She also has her own line of Newfoundland dog paraphanelia. Did I spell that right? Oh well, you get the idea. Just go look at her site. Got a drooler? She's got the bib for you!

For my work: I'll have another entry up in just a few minutes.... *zoom*

Rose Parade 2006

This year the parade comes a day late, due to the first falling on a Sunday. We have an added bonus of RAIN!!

Sorry, couldn't find any pics I liked to post.

June 29, 2005

Jupiter, Virgo, Spica, Comet 9/P Tempel 1 and Deep Impact

This coming Sunday night, at about 10:49 pm to 10:55 pm on the west coast, Mission Deep Impact will release a probe to crash into the comet to learn more about what makes it. This should be really exciting. It will be visible with as little as binoculars. Even better if you have a telescope. But don't worry if you are in a city, out of range or under cloudy skies - it will be telecast via TVs and online.

A couple resources online: NASA site. If you want to there is also a nice outline for how to host your own comet party. And NASA has their own channel on DISH and DirecTv. Check out their site at NASA TV.

Enjoy!

Oh yeah: The Impact is scheduled to occur at about 05:52 ±3min. UT 4 July 2005. (that means 10:52pm ±3 min on the west coast)

Martin Luther King, Jr Day

That's a mouthful! Happy holiday!

January 03, 2005

Happy New Year!!

Here's to a safe and happy 2005!

During the last two weeks of 2004 several sad things happened. Of course, first and foremost being the tsunami and earthquake. As of today, I believe the count is 150,000 killed.

On a more personal note, my mobo fried so I was offline during the repair of my computer.

The day after that happened I broke a tooth :yikes:

The day after that I swore to stay in bed with the covers over my head. Instead, I went to the post office and got two fantastic things. First, a great card from my mom. THANKS MOM!!!!! :HUGS: And the other piece of mail was notificiation I was placed into the eligibility list in the first score range (95-100%) for a "Library Page" opening at my local library. WOOT!

Maintenance

Doing maintenance today to the site. Updating links and such. Also, I'm going to be doing a presentation page on the Joshua Tree Geology Tour. It will take a while to finish though. Ta!

Election Day!

American Flags Don't forget to vote! I voted last week via absentee ballot. I find absentee ballot much more suitable for me. I know some folks prefer to cast their ballot "at the box". Whatever works for you!

October 22, 2004

New catagory

I created a new catagory. Joshua Tree NP. ha!

Ok. That is all.

October 14, 2004

Forums

I've added a link on the top and bottom to the forums. They've been available for several years but I've just changed the layout to match this site and linked it all together.

September 15, 2004

Almost there!

I'm almost done with the new slideshow. I just need to add in text.

Rain

The forest is getting a little rain today.

This morning first thing, the air was heavy with the smell of rain. It was so muggy too. At 10am we finally got a good downpour. It was shortlived - only about 10 minutes, but it sure felt good! The monsoon's are here.

Early this morning, around 2am, I went outside and it was so still and warm. The sky had a lot of little clouds and the crickets were chirping away. It made me think that soon it will be too cold to go outside at 2am in bed clothes lol.

It's heading toward fall!! It's nearing that time when the leaves are blowing, the mornings are cold and afternoons are warm. But I'll hang on to a little more summer while I can. *sigh*

Labor Day

Welcome back from the Labor Day holiday. I hope you had a safe and enjoyable holiday. We revisited Holcomb Valley to fill out some gaps in the Gold Fever Trail photolog. Plus we stopped off for a few geocaches in the meantime ;)

Integrated Templates

I believe at this time all pages have been integrated into the "Solitude" template. I will next work on Flash Preloaders. Then comes the fun part of all the slideshows wheee!!

Ok, I'm really excited about this part. I am looking forward to creating these slideshows of places we've been around the state of California.
